  • Aaron Tomhave

    Aaron Tomhave

That reflection absolutely ROCKS! Were you on a calm tidal pool?

  • Garth Smith replied

Thanks Aaron, tidal estuary flats between the islands of mainland Tasmania and the Hunter group of island. One of the most valuable bird habitats for migratory waders in Australia I think I read in the local rag a few years back.

  • Phineous Cassidy

    Phineous Cas...

this is nice quality for a d40 nikon do you shoot nef files or jpegs ?

  • Garth Smith replied

    Thank you Phineous.
    I used to take jpegs.
Now I shoot NEF files, and enlarge and sharpen them in NX2 to about 4500×3000 pixels.
Then I convert them to jpegs for loading to “the bubble”.

  • Michael Matthews

    Michael Matthews

Great shot Garth. I can see you are slightly taller than David. I’m not game to pick the best shot. They’re both brilliant. I love the commentary.

  • Garth Smith replied

    Thank you.
Yes I probably am a fraction taller but there’s not much in it Michael. I agree there’s nothing in it.
My clouds may be slightly better but I also think Davids shot has the better foreground.
(not that its a contest mind you LOL)

  • Michael Matthews

    Michael Matthews

Exactly. I’ve just added both to my favourites because they’re both brilliant. What a team !!

  • Garth Smith replied

  • Garth Smith replied

Thank you Aaron, yes it is magnificent scenery. I hope David appreciates me giving away one of my secret spots LOL.
What info was that Aaron – that I have a terrible hat, or the bird info, or the NEF/NX2 info?

  • Stephen Colquitt

    Stephen Colquitt

Glassy morning – this is terrific

  • Garth Smith replied

    Thank you Stephen.

  • Aaron Tomhave

    Aaron Tomhave

Both the birds and the NEF/NX2 info… I guess I didn’t notice you’re hat. I was too busy looking at the reflection. Did you submit this to the “light and reflection” gallery? Might be worth a look.

  • Jan Timmons

    Jan Timmons

NEF/raw and NX2 are great. It’s all about the initial location, location, time, and composition. And photographer, of course. Preferably one with a bit o’ humour.

  • Stuart Thorpe

    Stuart Thorpe

Truly fabulous scenery and wonderful shot…..I think David kinda adds to it, but figures in the landscape are a matter of feeling, taste, statement etc. No,without him it would lose something for me I reckon.

  • Garth Smith replied

Thank you Stuart, I am like you I think. I prefer a landscape uncluttered but sometimes a figure just adds the perspactive needed.

Just answered my own question. Of course it’s David. I really should read the titles properly shouldn’t I? I’m like that with instruction manuals too, which is why nothing ever works properly for me the first time. (haha).:)
