Duck Reach Power Station in Cataract Gorge Launceston was the first publicly owned hydro-electric plant in the Southern Hemisphere, and provided the Tasmanian city of Launceston with hydro-electric power from its construction in 1895 to its closure in 1955.

    Wow David, thank you very much. Thats a big comment. I was a little lucky I think. I was wandering back to my car at last light after watching some “after work abseilers” when all of a sudden the lights turned on and the water glowed orange. Sometimes we are just in the right place at the right time without even knowing what is going to happen.
