I have loved taking photographs for the better part of 30 years getting my first SLR camera in 1983 (a Konica FT1).
I love capturing the underappreciated natural beauty of my local area.It never ceases to amaze me how close I live to such bountiful variety. From the magnificent rainforests of the Tarkine interspersed with clump grass & heath plains, the beautiful long beaches of the north coast framed by headlands to the rugged wild beauty of the west coast beaches, quiet little coves and savage rocks, snow covered wilderness peaks and rolling majestic farmland, gravel roads, bush tracks & old buildings, little creeks only the locals know and navigable rivers.
I have most of this within 30 minutes from my doorstep and the magnificent Cradle Mountain/Walls of Jerusalem National Park is but 3 hours drive away.
I love blocks of colour, big skies, and twilight coastal shots, I like distance compressing telephoto shots & wide angle lens shots.

I love experimenting to “see what happens”.
The quality of digital cameras has improved enormously in recent years and it has revitalised my love of photography. It feels like an old and dear friend has come home after living away for a while.

I feel as if I have hardly scratched the surface.

Take Ken Rockwell with a massive grain of salt
I used to like Ken Rockwell’s alternative take on the world of cameras and photography. I initially believed his spiel about being an independent opinion in amongst the marketing hype. / I still do read some interesting stuff there. / But I also see inconsistencies of opinions changing like a flag flapping in the breeze. / At one time the Nikon 14-24mm zoom is the best lens ever, that is b…
