Artist's Description

The Picton Castle is a a restored barque. The ship was built in 1928 as a
Swansea motorized fishing trawler and operated out of Wales. Having been conscripted by the Royal Navy during World War II, the ship served as a minesweeper. The ship was docked in Norway for years when it’’s 700 HP diesel engine was restored and the vessel moved to South Street Harbor in New York City. In 1996 it was moved to Lunenberg, Nova Scotia where it underwent a dramatic transformation to a square-rigged barque. The Picton Castle is now operated as a co-ed training ship for paying deckhand trainees. The ship sails to many exotic locations (Can you hear the South Pacific calling?) around the world.
