Maple Syrup Time

Bees, wasps??? In March in Maine??? It is well below freezing at night. There is not an insect alive outside at this time of the year! And if any should venture in, I think the syrup is filtered before boiling. The trees are drilled and a metal tube inserted to allow the sap to be harvested.
