A Letchworth Autumn

A Letchworth Autumn

The middle falls at Letchworth State Park, in Castile, NY are the highest – dropping some 107 feet – and widest of the three cascades on the Genesee River that roar through the 17 mile gorge we proudly call – and others have as well – the “Grand Canyon of the East.” In some places along the river, the rugged rocky cliffs are as much as 600 feet high. Extraordinarily beautiful no matter what season we are in, Letchworth offers particularly stunning views and glorious color when the leaves reach their peak about mid-October.

    aaaaaaaaah.. take me awayyyyyyyy

    this is just fabulously lovely

  • lianne replied

LOL – Thank you so much Isa – yesterday was probably my last chance to capture this autumn wonderland – grey days ahead, windy and stormy and all the leaves will be gone. But I’ll have to get back over after a heavy snow – it’s just as beautiful then too! So happy that you liked it, my friend.

    Nature’s artwork,
    How glorious is the juxtaposition
The rich crimson, golden leaf tones of the trees that stand tall watching the power of the waters flow…

    Stunning spiritual moment location
    Beautifully captured, Lianne
    xx

  • lianne replied

That is exactly how I feel when I’m there, Lisa – almost so caught up in the grandeur of it, the spirituality of it that I forget I was there to take a few pictures! I’m so very happy that you like this my friend.

Wonderful to see a fall view so well captured Lianne!

  • lianne replied

Thank you so much John – I have one more I think might be good enough – lol but I’ll wait until tomorrow. [I got water spots on my camera from the spray and most of my images are not really usable – darn] I love Letchworth too and certainly at this time of the year best of all! So glad you like d this, my friend.

Stunning. I love waterfalls and this is gorgeous.

  • lianne replied

I love them too – if you saw my image files here you’d know that the overwhelming number of shots are of various waterfalls around here and other places that I’ve been. I just don’t post them very often – one would tire of the same thing all the time – lol. I’m delighted that you liked this one Cassidy.

  • trwoody

    trwoody

Glorious. I have never heard of the grand canyon of the east before, but if this is just a sampling I will have to come see this natural wonder for myself. Breath taking rock bluffs and colorful foliage around a raging river.

  • lianne replied

It may be a bit of bias on my part but I think it is much more glorious than Niagara Falls – which is about equidistant from me. Perhaps it’s the very unspoiled nature of Letchworth as opposed to the rampant commercialism of Niagara but I’ve always loved this place. The hiking trails are fabulous, there’s a truly awesome Inn and restaurant right above these middle falls, Indian museums, camp grounds – just all around a lovely place to be any season of the year and you never have to fight the crowds! Thanks so much TR – I’m really happy that you liked it!

  • ShadowDancer

My immediate response was fire on the water...evoking hexagram 64, but on going large that superb rock was exposed to me! This is so wonderful! I love when you take a camera into your hands- great things happen! Much love dear friend and best wishes for a wonderful weekend! xx
    Rosie

  • lianne replied

Aren’t you just the kindest person – I feel awkward with a camera in hand most of the time because I have no idea what to do with it. No clue about settings, don’t own a tripod, just point and shoot – lol. I’d be scared to death to have a fancy dancy camera with all those lenses! But every now and then out of 100 shots I might get one that’s pretty good – lol. So glad you feel that way about this one – one of my favorite places on earth! Thank you dear Rosie! You have a great weekend as well!

  • Akkra

Stunning view Lianne, it’s a very impressive place. We have a Letchworth over here and believe you me, it looks nothing like this!!!!!! :o)

  • lianne replied

Thanks so much Zoe – this is one of my all time favorite spots and I try to get over at least once each season and take some pics. In fact the very first picture I posted on RB was of the upper falls here. [too small a file to even make a card from – taken on my old little digital] But I’m not a terrific photographer – I just get lucky every now and then.

  • Akkra

From what I see in this shot I think you’re a better photographer than you realise! If you ever need blurring, camera shake and headless portraits then I’m definitely the woman to see! LOL

  • lianne replied

ROFL – that is exactly how I’d have described myself with a camera in hand just a year ago. And that’s pretty much what my images looked like too. But practice and trying to see with my heart more than my eyes seems to have changed that quite a bit. thank you Zoe.

  • Del Millar

    Del Millar

A lovely capture.. the beauty of nature Lianne,
with all its healing properties, reviving.

  • lianne replied

It is healing – just the walk on a crisp fall day, the smell of the leaves, the powerful sound of the cascade in the gorge, the color – I felt totally renewed and incredibly grateful to the Creator of it all. Thank you Del.

i want to visit this waterfall so badly! it’s gorgeous! and you have captured its immensity and power with such a skilled hand. another stunning shot from a master-artist.

  • lianne replied

Why thank you my dear friend – as I’ve said before, I suspect there might be a lot of just plain serendipity about this! If you ever get here I’ll take you right there. I like it so much better than Niagara Falls which gets all the glory around here. I’ll take Letchworth every day of the week over Niagara. Wait till you see the one I post tomorrow – it will give you some idea I hope of the immensity of this gorge. Thank you so very much!

  • Keith Reesor

    Keith Reesor

So lovely Lianne!! It’s been a couple years since my last visit!!
I’m particularly fond of the lower falls!! :)

  • lianne replied

I don’t get down to the lower falls very often any more Keith – the trek down – and even more the climb back up is pretty much too much for my asthma and my arthritic knees – lol. But I agree – they are particularly lovely so deep in the gorge. Thank you Keith!

So beautiful Lianne … you captured the power of the water there quite naturally – that sure is a lot of water!♥

  • lianne replied

It is indeed Bev – not quite as powerful as Niagara Falls of course, but still my preferred spot. I especially love it in the autumn and had I been able to be there at the right time of the day, the river looks orange from the reflections – I missed my window of opportunity!
