Little Red Man

Leah Highland

Little Red Man

Went up to the local hills again today to cut some firewood.
It was snowing, then hailing, then raining, then snowing again. Brrr!
It was all worth it for some of the fabulous shots I got that I would never find down here back in town.
This little newt sort of guy was found inside some dead wood.
He is a California Newt.

Somebodies face needs a good wash ;-) Again, I love the background having enough detail to give location without being distracting. I reckon Michelle might be right, he looks like one of our gecko’s, but it doesn’t sound like the right environment. Gecko’s are normally in warm climates.

  • Brett Foster

    Brett Foster

He’s a newt for sure, not a gecko. This one is a juvenile, sometimes referred to a “red eft”. They develop a pattern on their backs when they mature. Google “eft, newt, lizard, image” and you find a mature version.
Great shot by the way, such a cute little fellow!
