The village of Putre in far northern Chile has an altitude of 3500m but is towered over by surrounding mountains and volcanos. If you want to avoid the tourist rush of San Pedro de Atacama – Putre and Parque Nacional Parinacota is the place to go.

I don’t think you can compare Putre with San Pedro! Putre is Altiplano and San Pedro is desert. I visited both on my last trip to Chile. ;o) A really wonderful capture, though – nice light and details! ;o)
Hey Krys – I agree they are completely different. I remember San Pedro from 12 years ago (before the tourist hoards arrived) and what an amazing place it was. I got a similar feel from Putre — even though the scenery was vastly different.
