Burrator Reservoir is on the south side of Dartmoor (Devon, UK). It is one of a number of reservoirs and dams that were built over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries within the Dartmoor National Park, to supply drinking water to the rapidly growing towns in the surrounding lowlands including the city of Plymouth.
Burrator Reservoir was completed and opened in 1898, and the reservoir was expanded in 1929. It has two dams. The edges of the reservoir are planted with commercial forests and is a popular spot for leisure activities including walking, cycling and fishing.

I live in the UK and in 2011 when I joined Red Bubble, started experimenting with different settings and angles. I enjoy finding suitable pictures of flowers, Scotland, reflections, lamps and seats and have now branched out into different subjects.
In 2013 I finally realised my dream of visiting Australia and New Zealand. Whilst there I purchased a Pentax camera so have been able to expand my portfolio of flower macros among other new and exciting subjects.

We spent a day in Dartmoor, Tarr steps etc but never saw any reservoirs.

  • Sorry to say Fred – if you went to Tarr Steps you were on Exmoor. I am not sure if there are any reservoirs on Exmoor. Next time you are in the UK Dartmoor is well worth several visits – you won’t see it all on one trip.
