Teguise is a town in Lanzarote which was founded in 1414. It served as the capital of the Kingdom of the Canary Islands from 1425-1448 and as capital of the island until the capital moved to Arrecife in 1852. César Manrique who was responsible for keeping the island from being spoiled by development, was born in the area. This photograph is the entrance to the Plaza Mayor in the centre of the town.
