TOP TEN Runner-Up in the Places of Worship in the UK Challenge in the Nikon UK Group, 8th August 2014
The Italian Chapel at Lamb Holm, Orkney in the Scottish Islands, was constructed from limited materials by prisoners of war who were building the Churchill Barriers in Scapa Flow. Two Nissen huts were joined end-to-end to make the church. The corrugated interior was then covered with plasterboard and the altar and altar rail were constructed from concrete left over from work on the barriers.
