This Time, Is Ours (dedicated to my Mother)

The hand that I have held
as I walked through the streets
of the different lands that you
so nobly traversed me,

Was yours.

The wet cloth that was in the
baggie in your handbag
that wiped away the dirt from
my face and hands on the playground,

Was yours.

The mercuircum that dropped
from the eye dropper onto the
scraped knee, and tear stained face
cleaned lovingly with a tissue,

Was yours.

The shoulder that caught
my falling tears when my heart
broke from an unrequinted love
or the shame of defeat,

Was yours.

The face that smiled so widely
as I walked down the aisle, but
cried tears as I said
“I do”

Was yours.

The hands that helped me pack up
my things; the arms that held me
close and tight, as I laid my
husband in to the ground,

Was yours.

The heart that overflowed with joy
in the knowing that I had found
new love, and embraced my new
husband with open arms,

Was yours.

The knee that provides rest for
your granddaughter, the arms that now
enfold her to your heart, the mouth
that gently sings her to sleep,

Is yours.

For all the years we’ve walked this
earth as Mother and Daughter; the
fights, the tears, the laughter, the
joys; Today we are friends, and this time,

Is ours.

This Time, Is Ours (dedicated to my Mother)
