Book of Dreams
This is a journal from my youth, however not a traditional journal. I was a dreamer, a wannabe romantic. This was my place where I stored quotes, pictures, songs, writings of my own, anything that inspired or touched me. I came across it the other day and thought I might try photographing it. I realize the picture is a little cluttered, but that was my intent. I wanted to give it a feeling of being from the past… perhaps victorian, which everything in that era was beautifully cluttered. Then I burned the edges wanting to give it another effect of almost being lost, which it seems sometimes that my passion that I had was almost lost until recently.
Comments are welcome, as are any helpful advice.

You totally achieved the ‘Victorian’ or ‘Edwardian’ look with this image. I really like the composition with the ‘faded’ rose as the centerpiece and the irregular-edged vignetting. Interesting concept that is incredibly well executed. Nice work, Lex! Cheers! Chris

The effects you have used have created a wonderful atmosphere! I love the addition of the rose, especially for the colour. Isn’t it great to still have such souvenirs from youth?

This is really lovely Alexia. The use of the rose complements the journal really well, with the addtion of the colour.
Can I ask why you chose this particular page of the journal? Is there something on these pages that spoke to you?

It is a beautiful thing, both what you have done here and in your life(finding your passion again). To capture your life in one shot is not an easy task, but I believe you have done that. Beautiful shot.

It’s beautiful. I woul love to see it cropped ever so slightly just so that the rose isn’t quite so centred in the frame, but other than that you truly have a way with creating an image that reflects a romantic moment in time. I think your portfolio of work is beautiful.

Love your presentation of this. I journal write regularly and whilst it is a mix of pain and pleasure it is all aimed at freeing me up and bringing passion. I think artistic types feel so much more than most and need to work much deeper to be free and stable.

Excellent composition and use of selective colours/tones.
I like the burned edges although I think the rose itself may benefit from being a little sharper.
Adding a little glow or soft focus may also add to this image.
But its a very nice piece as it is. Good work
