Baba Des by

If you live in the Dandenongs you’re sure to know Des! He’s a Belgrave Icon. A drive through main street Belgrave often finds him stretched out reading a book enjoying a herbal tea or chatting to the locals.

Hi Karen, what a stunning portrait. I love the saturated colours and the eye contact with the viewer. Everything works well here – black background, skin colour etc. Another top shot.

fabulous portrait …how long has he lived there? a former resident of 50 or more years ago would like to know…please…

  • Gee…I’m not exactly sure how long he’s been a resident of the hills. Its at least 10 years that I know of, but it could well be more.

    That’s amazing..great photo..love it!!
and I’m sure I’ve seen him in monbulk..is he the one like a wizard..and does he carry a staff..??

    fantastic work!

  • Yes Catherine I’m sure its the same man. He is nik named “the wizard” . He does get a round a bit so its very likely he hangs about in Monbulk too. He dresses like this every day and carries a staff. He has some amazingly coloured clothes. He is very opened to having his photo taken if you see him again. :-)

Wow Karen this is an amazing shot of Des – AKA The Wizard, The Shaman and The Mountain Man!
He is an amazingly vibrant personality of the hills and everytime I’ve seen him – he’s always made me feel good!
I am moving back to the Mountain, and after seeing this – I just can’t wait to come home!
    Thank you!
