Bird in a Cage
Spotted egg, fallen from tree
To a ground that’s frozen in misery.
Little chic, wake up now.
Begin the endless fight to be free.
Broke through that spotted shell
as little eyes saw their first day.
Then cruel winter winds picked you up
and carried you away.
Struggle, quick! Fight hard!
Open your wings and learn to fly!
Little chic, don’t’ be swept away!
Don’t let your free will die!
But life has clipped your wings,
and taken your freedom away.
It put you in a covered cage
that shut out the joy of day.
Slowly suffocate in your cell
as you hobble painfully around.
Gazing out the window you want to fly,
or fall freely back to the ground.
There is no spirit now to sing a song.
Life goes slowly, Time has aged.
Still this life goes nowhere.
I am the bird in the cage.
