Poor Coffee Company

Poor Coffee Company

I’m coming in
you’re going out.
We pass by each other
without
saying a word

Well sure, you smile
and nod, but then,
you’re gone.
I sit and think
coffee makes poor company.

If one day
you could
see me
the way I see you.
If one day
dreams could
come true.
The chair’d be filled,
the talk be good
and coffee wouldn’t need
to keep me company.

I walk alone
the streets are cold.
Why’s everyone in love
with everyone
but me?

The lights they shine
the snow it blinds
my eyes.
Coffee’s cold
I need more than Styrofoam
to keep me company.

The fire dies
my hope it lies
in sugared dreams.
I climb the stairs,
to who knows where -
lay me down to sleep.

To dream,
To sleep,
and all my thoughts
keep inside.
And wait for
the day when
there’d be coffee for two.
