This is the 3rd of my Sugar and Spice Series. While I was drawing this, a man who was making a delivery to the office had to stop and look at them all. He said he liked this one the best because of the boots and hat. Another man was also very interested in the series. He would like to think of himself as a religious man. When he saw this one, his first reaction was that she must be a prostitute. I asked why, he said, because of the way she was dressed. I didn’t see what he saw; nevertheless, he made me wonder about the perception men have when they approach women based on their outward appearance.
I saw this image on the paper even before I drew it. When girls are young they believe what is being said to them unless taught other wise. When she knows the difference between a lech and a decent guy, then the lech calls her jaded, or frigid, or cold hearted, or a bee-atch (you know). It is one of my passions to get across to young girls not to give their hearts to whom ever asks for it. There are too many of them that are not worthy of it and don’t know what to do with it once they have it.
This was a drawn on cream color 9×12 drawing paper with fine tipped black ink and silver gel ink. I used slat gray, warm gray, medium gray, sepia, and dark brown Prismacolor © colored pencils.
