3D modelling is not something I’m comfortable with. But I’ve decided to learn to do it anyway. Since I can’t afford 3D Studio Max (which costs about a year’s salary back when I had one!) I’m using the free program Blender ... and it’s not easy. This puts me in mind of a quote I came across years ago and wrote down in my diary, knowing it would be useful one day. Today is the day.
“Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way.” – Kurt Vonnegut
Ok, back to faces, edges and vertices, and all the related confusing things ;)

There are a few good tutorials out there, some not so good. Also the blender artist forums have beginner projects you can do to help you get familiar with the program.
Once you get the hang of using both keyboard and mouse, it’s not too daunting. I’ve still yet to finish my winter wonderland scene only cause my pc is a slow coach.

Haha, I think I’m tackling it the hard way. I’m working on a sword … and I want to finish this sword. So I’m not using tutorials although I will, after I’m done with the sword ;) I’m getting the hang of the keyboard shortcuts and finally figured out that I can pan the view with shift-scrollbutton (my biggest problem till I found it!) so it’s not going too badly.

Blender is tough, but I believe is worth learning. I have it here at home, but I haven’t tackled it yet myself. Bryce 5.5 is free and worth checking out, too for making 3D scenes and such.

I’ve got Bryce 5.5, Vue 6 Esprit and a bunch of other renderers and modellers. I’m a software fanatic, really ;) You know what’s bad though? I BOUGHT Bryce 5.5 a few years ago for over R1000 … which was and still is a lot of money for me. ... I wonder if Daz will refund me, haha!
