High in the Sierra Nevadas, the lovely valley below gave a much easier approach to the California Central Valley and on to San Francisco for wagon trains crossing the Sierra. At this point, wagons, oxen and horses were lowered by rope to the valley below to continue their journey.

Barbara Brown is a mental health professional and an avid photographer. She lives in northern California and enjoys nature and all types of photography.
