The 1800’s Gold Rush section of Sacramento. This area was once allowed to decay and was the “skid row” area. It has now been revitalized and the beautiful buildings restored. Originally, the city was built right on the Sacramento River and flooded every winter. The settlers tired of this, built a levee and covered up the original town building right on top. There is, therefore, a complete underground city that shows up whenever there is excavation.

I love thise old towns…I have never been to Old Sacramento, but it looks like a place a I have to add to my list!

  • If you like old towns, northern is a great place. Old Sacramento has so much history and there are so many rustic old gold rush towns nearby in the Sierra foothills! Great to have you come by.
