One of the most common dragonflies around my area and the ones I find the most interactive with me, willing to allow me to get inches away without flying off and sometimes to land on a finger.
The Necessary Stuff for Group Submissions:
Lens: 70 – 300 Nikkor (Nikon’s brand)
The skimmer is larger than life-sized so the ratio of 1:1 was achieved using what I call “tele-macro”.
Tripod was used for stability with the 300 mm focal range
ISO was biased slightly high (tho I can’t remember why) at 200
Exposure time 1/800
I used the VERY VIVID setting in the camera to capture the colour and sharpen the wings tho the saturation is normal.
The shot was taken in Weedy Field, Rancho Cordova, California, USA
NO DRAGONFLIES WERE HARMED IN THE SHOOTING OF THIS IMAGE.
I believe it’s a male.
No, I didn’t bug him enough to fly off.
The shot was taken in full daylight, camera aimed east, southeast.
Yeah, I was pretty happy I got him too. :-)
Sorry, can’t tell the date the shot was taken here at work because I only have a copy file with the metadata updated by using Corel PaintShop Pro XI to enlarge the image for Red Bubble.
Sorry, I can’t tell the age of the creature either so submitting the image to the nude groups is just a crap-shoot since I didn’t get a signed release either. My bad. :-(
RED and ORANGE GROUPS: I’m colourblind so I’m guessing it’s either red or orange cuz Flame Skimmers are supposed to be either red or orange. But I WON’T bust your chops for rejecting it from either group if this skimmer is wearing a disguise.
ALL OTHER GROUPS: Trust me, I’m not an ass. If you get this submitted and you think it doesn’t work in your group, by all means nuke it with my complete blessing. :-)
