The oldest church structure in Sacramento. Across the street from the Maydestone Apartment disaster and kitty-corner from The Memorial Auditorium.

This is not my church but I was deeply disappointed by the additions of the banners. I still feel as tho they badly distract from the unique architecture and majestic nature of the building. Just me.

I’m a “scatter-focus” artist. ANYTHING may be here or roundabout my galleries. Expect nothing anywhere and you’ll always be OK. ;-)

I never like the banners either. But they need to attract attendees somehow. The churches are having a tough go.

  • Churches are about one step from being “in the conversation” when it comes to budget deficits. On of the most adamant and outspoken proponents of taxing the churches was Frank Zappa. While he wasn’t what many would call “religious”, he believed in a Higher Power but was absolutely brutal when talking about fallen televangelists and the amount of money that was being dropped into churches to simply avoid taxes. I’d quote a few lines from Zappa’s Universe but it might cause some to seek to kill me. LOL!

I think the depression (and I’m sick of lying about it. We’re not in a recession; we’re in the same thing that happened in 1929 but with different peripheral circumstances making it not look identical) has slammed churches as well as everything else. When you can’t even afford a roof overhead, reach into your pockets on faith takes a greater person than most of us, probably me included. :-(

why can’t they leave it at signs or put the banners on a fence I hate when they hide the beauty of the building

I’ll take the chance of being killed Dweezil honouring his Father’s amazing talent

  • I so agree on both points! I had to pass on ‘the Dweez’ when buying CD’s today only because he dad has a new release thru the family trust. I will forever buy anything from the family trust, just as I will for the one by Hendrix.

Have you heard Zappa on Zappa (or dare I ask a true FZ fan? LOL!)? Dweezil is as good a player as his dad and able to play his dad’s style – after changing picking techniques – with all the excellence of Steve Vai but with more heart. “Confessions” will be a favourite of mine forever. not yet but I am planning on it

and yeah can’t fault Dweezil at all, well maybe for “Robot Wars” or whatever you guys call it LOL

  • Well, I got the latest Dweez CD and it’s not as easy a listen yet but the guy can seriously play! But this will knock your stones off: FRANK has a new CD too! Evidently this is the last one he put together himself just before he died. I got it but haven’t had a chance to hear it well yet; I work in a noisy place with over-the-ear wireless headphones but I wanna hear it carefully in all its glory.

    Eat your heart out. hehehehehehe!

    damn I gotta hear that

who says I have any stones left ?

    Love ‘N’ Laughter Kriss

  • OMG! No longer is Sharlena the only FZ track with Dweezil playing on it! There are TWO tracks with father and son trading licks so well you wanna just stop breathing to listen. The album is completely instrumental and basically like the “Shut Up…” series with a cast of the best of the best from the 1980’s era. And if you like drummers, Wackerman never sounded so natural. He’s got some electronics but the most sounds like only real wood, skins, and brass. You can tell FZ was struggling to keep up with his stellar bands in the later years but that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that it’s NEW FRANK ZAPPA MUSIC, it’s officially released, and Frank actually did the editing.

After one complete listen, my stones are sand too.
