Jasper's evening repose
Neither of us did the “clothing thing” when using the filtered light of blinds. The obvious comparisons simply have to be made so be kind and remember this IS just a kitten. :_D
You’d never believe that tiny kitten was playing ferociously less than 3 minutes before the lighting became fun. I asked her to come to and she did. She looked up at me while we were both sitting on the couch (where she is seen here). I reached a good distance away and brought the NIkon D90 out of its case. She sat next to me and watched. I took off the lens cap stood up squatted in front of her with the camera aimed her way to get the light settings. Jasper sat there quietly. Once the stripes started making patterns on her face, she got a little antsy because the direct sunlight wasn’t comfortable. I got her to face away from the direct glare with a hand moved to the side of the camera; her eyes followed it as though it was the most interesting thing on the planet.
I think I shot 50 images before I got bored. Jasper didn’t. But immediately after I set down the camera and stood up, her eyes perked up, pointy ears gave me full attention, and she ran to find a toy mouse. She didn’t even need to hear me say “bring it to me cuz you’re playing ‘fetch’, not me!”
This cat is gonna be waaaaaaaaaaayyy too much fun. She was born with a lifetime license to charm! :-D
About the shot… This is direct from the camera. I used some of the onboard editing options and compared the results with the best I could do with LightRoom. Nothing seemed particularly better so having an “as is” shot seemed like the most interesting way to go. And I consider this one “as is” even tho the exposure was automatically enhanced using onboard D-lighting and enlarged for Red Bubble prints using Elements 3.
NIkkor 18 – 105 mm lens
f-stop: 4.5
full manual control with 1/3 bracketing (under/even/over)
exposure 1/30
ISO: 200 (the baseline for Nikon D90’s)
metering mode: spot
focal length: 22mm
exposure bias: -1.3
The sun, courtesy God, was setting thru the livingroom blinds and over the town of Penn Valley, California.
Yes, I knew the cat’s eye in the direct light would be slightly squinted. I thought about saying I planned that so she’s look more sly. Then I woke up.

Love your use of light filtered through blinds on the clothing optional shots of both you and Jasper. :D Such a sweet face and you captured a precious expression. You and your way with animals! You can get just about any of them to pose for you. So, do we dub you Lenny the Photograph Whiperer? All silliness aside, I love this shot. :)

Better than Lenny The Roach Whisperer and the roaches are on a rampage in downtown Sacramento these days. Ugh!!!
Jasper is mature far beyond her few months of life. She’s also bright enough to know if I give her The Look, it’s time for The Pose. :-D
Clothing optional! LOL!!!! Now what would you know about stuff like that?? ;-)

Ya know, as I waggle around, Jasper has never once decided to claw me. Could be that she knows it would be fatal to both of us. LOL! And thanks!

This is gorgeous, Lenny. I love how the light divides the image and how Jasper’s eyes appear to be more alive than the rest of her, her eyes are beautifully coloured. Lol, I love your tale of how this one came about. And, yes, I believe she was running about like a mad rabbit just moments before, my two do the same thing! The “suggestion” of the shadowed parts of this photo is well done. Beautifully framed and shot.

This is beautiful Lenny, love the light …...Jasper is so cute !
Lenny La Rue, IPA replied
Thank you so much! “Shoot the light! Shoot the light!” It will resound thru my head until it opens up and resounds outside my head too. But light is illusive and The Shot is all I seem to usually get so I’m very happy when the light is on The Shot. Jasper ‘doesn’t take bad shots’. When she gets to be a year old, I’ll have to have her sign releases…

Great image Lenny! The shadows create a sense of mystery and the eyes are really cool!
Lenny La Rue, IPA replied
Gracias! There’s more mystery in the shot than the cat. The cat is hysterically obvious most of the time. ;-)

So I’m almost a month behind in the congrats on the feature comment, but hey, I didn’t see it until yesterday so I have an excuse! LOL So, Congrats. I’m sure Jasper was pleased. :) As for your question of what I would know about clothing optional…. All I can say about such topics is that I have found a little support a necessity rather than an option. ;)
Lenny La Rue, IPA replied
LMAO! Cute. :-) But thanks for the congrats and Jasper was pleased.
I’m going to pick her up from the boarding hospital where she has just spent her last few days. For some reason, the same infliction that took Jimmy’s left eye has infected one of hers. It’s a common infection; the hospital has seen many cases of it, not all as severe as Jimmy’s. But it is hopeful Jasper will have a full recovery tho prayers offered will be gratefully accepted. :-)

Another congrats on another feature—very cool! Hoping Jasper feels better and that her recovery goes well. I’m sure the news of a second feature will hasten her recovery. :)

LOLOL! I haven’t had an opportunity to tell Jasper in person yet but there’s a plan to do it this weekend. :-) Yes, she’s doing much better, losing toys as fast as she gets them. She has this unusual habit of “cleaning up”: toys wind up in the trash so often it has to be checked before being emptied. And one of the trash bags is 3 feet off the floor. :-O

Love the lighting across this photograph Lenny!!
Lenny La Rue, IPA replied 13 days ago
Sorry for the late reply but thank you so very much. This is a major departure for someone with no lighting other than whatever’s wherever. LOL!

what a excellent shot Lenny….
There are sooooooooo many pics of cats out there…. but this is REAL nice….
Lenny La Rue, IPA replied 27 days ago
Thank you very much, Carrie! I’d hoping the view would offer a little variation from “just another cat”. This version of “just another cat” looks moody. :-D
