the pink and yellow poppies

the pink and yellow poppies

While you don’t see the pink ones everywhere, you find poppies in every single place where they feel like popping up. They are literally everywhere in Big Sur. I’d never seen darker (pink) once before so it was a treat to find a new variety of California’s State Flower – a weed that grows everywhere all the time just like the weed that it is. LOL!

Tanks to all of you too! Without a guide, I would have missed this shot entirely since it’s colour-based. But once I saw how much darker they were, I was hooked and wish these NON-WEEDS would grow elsewhere in the wild. I see I’m not the only California native who has been surprised by this find – equaling a LOT of years missing as much as a glimpse of these beauties.

Karirose, they may not be weeds but they sure act like weeds in every sense of the word: they grow fast and are hardy plants (even if the flowers are quite delicate); they can be seen anywhere/everywhere and in almost all good soil that’s left unattended for a couple weeks; they are relentless in reproduction and become akin to tall ground cover with larger flowers than most, and; California would be hella embarrassed to call a weed the State’s Flower, ego it didn’t call this weed a weed by strict definition
