Kitchen Rhapsody: The Grater and the Lesser by

Featured in the Monochrome in Color group.
Featured in the Tools group, July 2011.

Tonight, I have found some inspiration in my kitchen again.

June 2011. My kitchen, Tilburg, Netherlands.
Canon EOS 5D MkII, Canon EF 24-105 f/4 L IS USM @ 55mm, tripod Manfrotto 055Pro + 3D head 141RC, cable release, mini light tent, background: dark blue and purple carton left and behind, top: white curtain. Flash: Canon Speedlite 580EX II right of the camera in manual mode triggered by Hähnel Combi TF remote control + Canon Speedlite 430EX top left in slave mode, 1/20s, f/5.6, ISO 800.
Post-processing: retouch (some scratches on the big grater and a wrinkle on the background), nothing else.

Original title: Kitchen Rhapsody: Big and Small. Thanks to George Row for suggesting the new title, I like it very much!

I have two just like this and have been planning to take a shot like this for some time. But you have beaten me to it! So I will make you a gift of the title I was planning to use. If you like it feel free to use it. I was going to call it:
                “The Grater and the Lesser”

    all the best

  • George, it’s so generous of you, thank you! I like the title you wanted to use, very nice wordplay :) But before I’d change it: are you sure you don’t want to make a photograph of the two now? I would love to see your version! If you do, please let me know and I would be happy to link to your version from here. After all, when two do the same, it’s not the same :)

You have done a MUCH more professional job of the table-top photography than I was planning to do. So I think you should go ahead … if I do get around to it I will let you know.
