Muiderslot (the Muiden Castle), not far away from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is one of the best known Dutch castles. Originally built by Floris V around 1280, the castle is relatively small (32 by 35 meters, according to Wikipedia) but strong (with brick walls up to 1.5m thick), and surrounded by a moat.
The castle is a popular destination for family trips, offering two children-friendly routes, that are both informative and offering some hands-on experience: the route of the towers, and the route of the knights. Regular falconry demonstrations add another highlight.
