The Chapel of the Revelation of the Lord is the most valuable part of the chateau in Smiřice, Czech Republic. It was built in 1699-1713 in the style of High Baroque on a unique ellipse groundplan with curved walls. The chapel’s architect was probably either Christoph Dienzenhofer or Giovanni B. Santini; the building plans were unfortunately lost in fire and the high baroque building contains architectural elements typical for both of them.
This photograph brings back many nice memories to me; I have spent great years of my childhood in Smiřice. The chaple was in a very bad state at that time and I was very happy to see it repaired several years ago. The town council succeeded in turning it into a beautiful cultural venue, a place of classical music festivals visited by people from the whole republic as well as foreign guests.
