Having created work for Grammy winning singer/songwriter Leon Russell in the early 1990’s L. R. Emerson II created commemorative work for Leon Russell in 2011 to celebrate Leon’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 1993 L. R. Emerson II’s work had been appearing on stage with Leon Russell from 1991 to 1993.
As many as ten thousand fans attended the early 1990’s Leon Russell Birthday Bash concerts in Tulsa Oklahoma. Hundres of fans wer afforded the opportunity to personally sign Leon Russell’s Giant birthday card along with Leon’s band members from the past. Notables such as Chuck Blackwell from the Shelter Records recording days who played on many songs including Church Street Recording studio session also signed Leon’s Card as well as then promoter Steve Todderoff, Tulsa Sound Musician Glen Townsend and a host of others. Mr. Russell was inducted by musical collaborator Sir Elton John.
Subsequently L. R. Emerson II depicted Leon Russell in a series if Upside-Down Art making Leon Russell the first living subject of an Upside-Down Artwork anywhere on the entire world stage!
