“The Painters” are Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo.

It’s a homage of sorts to several artists I have been interested in over the years.
There is a degree of metaphor interwoven throughout this large work which had been hanging on my studio wall for quite some time in various degrees of completion whilst I procrastinated over changes and over painting areas.
Finally out of the studio though and bound for someones home eventually.

Incidently, the “hand” earring that Frida Kahlo is wearing was a gift from Pablo Picasso whom she met while in Paris. The hand makes reference at what is called in Mexico “milagros”. Milagros are pieces made of wax or ivory shaped in the form of the part of the human body that the person wants to be healed, and left on the altar of the Saint they pray to.

    Your diptychs are my favorites, Leith. Your great respect for these artists shines through, and the metaphor keeps me with this work, looking for more. Love the Milagros earring and yes, the coffee cup, I want one of each!

    The recurrence of the birds and stick figures mark this as pure original O’Malley. I still want to see your work close up for real – the surface looks to die for! Gorgeous!

    just superb with the jester hats, like a performance of key players in art history. Love the intensity and the playfulness and the different reading on each artist. Andy hiding behind glasses, Jackson after a head slap from Greenberg, Picasso drinking tea calmly and Frida suffering & recovering from injuries…. lol just wonderful to do homage to these artists, great painting.

    You’re right Kate, although your work came to my attention quite some time ago via gallery exhibition adverts in various art magazines. You are quite prolific and I’ve been admiring the style of your paintings of late, particularly the Patchwork series and your piece En Rouge en Blanc.. wonderful stuff!
