The Black Dog: Depression
My brother and I worked on this together.
It was his concept, the black dog follows you everywhere and you can’t get rid of it. And I took the photo.
Model: Bindi the Black Dog & Jamie Barlow.
My brother is called Jeremy- aka. Jeremedy.
check our his design illustration blog.

MrTim
I absolutely love this, very well done. Love the idea and execution. I look at it and it’s sort of quirky, but at the same I’ve had days where I feel exactly that way!
TheBigHenry
I like it. But what is a Schmacko? Sounds phallic.
whitecrow
Terrific metaphor. Very creative.
Kimberly Palmer
Awesome concept, greating lighting, and cute dog… and guy. he he =)
JimFilmer
great concept – excellent picture…could imagine the dangers involved if the dog was a bit hyped and trying to get traction on a bath tub
Gili Orr
Well-thought and well-staged! I google “shmacko”....
shmacko – combination between a schmuck and a wacko…a person who is over enthusiastic about everything and really annoying
John is getting so frikkin hyped up over this project…what a frikkin shmacko, u know what i’m saying?
Leila Koren
hehe maybe I spelt it wrong! Schmackos are simply a dog snack! :)
Thanks, the concept it one that runs deep with me and my bro. And it was his vision and we worked it out together.
p.s. That is not him in the bath… he was lighting with me.
Thanks for your lovely comments. Very encouraging.

nick board
Brilliant , this should be winning something.
socalgirl
Love this picture. Well done.
AcePhotography
although upon first glance I didnt feel the same emotion as your title, I in fact chuckled a little at the look of the dog staring. Almost as if to say, “cmon are you serious?” a little different interpretation for me but I still love the pic. very well done.
Susan Spracher...
I have a dog like that.
mikepaulhamus

Lois Bryan
AWWW!!! GREAT image!!! Yeah, I’ve heard depression called that … fabulous expression on the dog … it does indeed look ready to pounce, as I’m sure depression must feel. The guy is perfect!!!
Dani Di Cesare
Well done.
I like how the dog looks like it’s staring at the man somewhat relentlessly – as if, no matter how many times the man looks away, the depression loyaly remains by his side.
Vim Lowenstein
should do a series of these, have the dog watching you as you drink too much or in other perceived downer situations. would be very effective
Leila Koren replied
yes we did actually, one at the dinner table, one in bed with girlfriend… I may find one or two to post…
Caterpillar
This is really great picture!
David Harris
My pooch will do most things for a smacko ha ha! Great picture! I know people who suffer from depression and this is a really good visual of what it must be like. Winston Churchill described his depression as a black dog. World class work!
Leila Koren replied
ah thanks :) yeah bindi the dog is great! yes it is taken from churchhill originally, and it has great impact as a metaphore :)

Brilliant shot and concept…I can imagine him saying “Oh no not again”
Keiran Lusk
Yep, that black dog sure can be relentless in his pursuit! I have often admired this image. Although tackling a very serious issue with genuine sensitivity, I see an endearing level of quirkiness in this image, which always brings a wry smile to my face. A fantastic concept Leila, beautifully captured and presented.
Leila Koren replied
Thank you very much, they are wonderful reflections. It is something people close to me have struggled with and it was great to be able to make it into a physical image. :)

Wonderful perception and creativity here Leila! Sometimes that black dog cannot take a hint! I love the look on the black dog, and the different shadows! And your brother does his part really well too! (and the claw bath is just marvellous!!) This has got to be a favourite…. I am having images of captions going through my head looking at this! But I won’t put them here!!! This would have to be part cure for that wicked black dog!!! Thank you so much! :))

wow!
This is an inspiring reflection of just how difficult it is living with depression.
I like how bowed down and subdued the man is under the relentless stare of the black dog! even going so far as to try to hide from it/himself.
The modal did an awesome job portraying your vision. good work by all involved.
