Wonderful metallic look to this …has to be a fav!!! You are fortunate it was only the evil eye – I got the rough side of a woman’s tongue locally yesterday – nasty piece of work, in a completely unsigned open place!!
LeighN replied
Thanks Rosalie! Hmmmm it amazes me how paranoid some people are about cameras and photography. As an experiment I went to 3 different city train stations on the same day to see what the story was with taking photos at a railway station, got 3 completely different answers varying from “Yeah no worries mate, just sign in and here’s your security pass, can use ya tripod too” to “Oh I don’t know, why wasn’t I notified of this by email?” to “Yes but no close ups of faces” which 10 minutes later turned into “What the f___ are you doing? No photo’s allowed! (you just said yes 10 mins ago, there’s no signs saying no photography and what about the dozen tourists over there snapping away?) QVB has a no tripod rule so the public don’t trip over your tripods outstretched legs, fair enough, but when I asked about a monopod things didn’t not compute and even after a practicle demonstration to centre management (politely of course) they had to have a mini meeting to discuss if I person could trip over a monopod in use. Unless they walk between my legs when I’m shooting I don’t see how :). Anyway thanks too for the fav!
Jeff Catford
Bloody hell!!! This is fantastic!! Very Harry Potterish I reckon which is probably the effect that the legend – the Sigma 10~20 – gives the image a. The view through the skylight is an excellent twist and beautifully handled. In fact the whole image is beautifully handled, POV, the people right down below, the composition, the colours, the excellent HDR – I could go on – and all hand held too!!!
Top image Leigh. An inspiration. Thank you.
LeighN replied
Wow thanks Jeff, what a compliment! Yep the Sigma 10-20 has become my favourite lens, I don’t think for the price you can beat it in the wide angle market, seems to get better every time I use it. Hand held with some careful bracing my elbow against the railing, but ISO 400 helped too. If you zoom in a long way through the sky light just to the left of the clock you can see a contruction worker with hard hat working on the roof. Thanks again Jeff!
Rita H. Ireland

Lois Bryan
whoa baby … I’ve just studied this beauty until I think I wore the pixels off my monitor … and read all the comments … there’s nothing I can add … I loved Jeff’s “Bloody Hell!” the best, lol!!!!!!!! Keep ‘em coming … and I’m putting the 10-20 on my wishlist for sure!!!! WOW!!!!!!!
LeighN replied
Thanks Lois, glad you liked it! It sure is a great place to photograph, so much going on in every direction and great light. I haven’t tried any of the really wide Nikons but for the money I highly recommend the Sigma 10-20mm, can have a few flare issues outside in bright sun but no probs if you use the lens hood etc, inside I thinks it’s awesome! Thanks again!
morpheus71

great image – thanks for the heads up on the tripod nazi too – I have a wedding to shoot here later in the year – i hope they allow pro’s for wedding purposes to use a tripod
LeighN replied
Thanks Craig! I would be interested to see how you get on using a tripod in the QVB as a pro and if QVB want to charge for it. Let me know how you go!

Michael Bermi...
I know what you mean about the tripod Nazi. One of those asked me to leave the Museum of Western Australia!
This shot is awesome!
LeighN replied
Thanks Michael! I didn’t even get the tripod out for this shot, just having it slung over the shoulder in a bag freaked them out, shame so many cool places to photograph that don’t allow tripods, just gotta get sneakier at getting the shot off ;)
TheSpaniard
Woww … this shot is stunning! Great angle and perspective, love the HDR post processing …
LeighN replied
Yeah HDR is very good for bringing out the little details in interior shots. Thanks :)

jimbo007
Great composition, well done Leigh. Lucky you got away with taking pictures there. Our photography class went there 2005 with permission to take pictures with tripod coz it was a class excursion, and we’re still asked to put tripods away.
LeighN replied
Thanks James!
Irak Pérez
I TOTALLY GET YOU!!!!
Here in Mexico it is not forbiden in ANY LAW to shot in public land or facilities (unless specificly written), even if you ask for permissio to shoot in some facility they say “of coures”... Nevertheless as soon as you take out a SLR you become a target to any kind of authorities, owners, just people etc. They bug you mad… but as soon as you get the tripod out they argue you that “It is the law, put that away… where is your writtn permission…! It is the law I say” ”...what law…”
you answer, the thing goes on and on until some nut case puts his greasy hand in your gear so the thing gets ugly… what to say…Congratulations
LeighN replied
Thanks Irak! That’s it, most of the time the law is on the photographers side but I think alot of people are just paranoid about cameras in general.
Nira Dabush
AMAZING…!! Brilliant.
LeighN replied
Thanks Nira!
