Self Portrait - "Dad" with Dexter by

This pastel of me with my favourite four legged friend, resulted from one of our many visits to the Eastern Creek Quarantine Kennels, before our little furry friends were released from their 7 month incarceration. We visited them at least twice a week for an hour at a time. It was tough, but we are all now happily reunited.

The green ball is a symbol for Dexter’s greatest joy in life, other than “Walkies” He loves to chase and fetch. It is his “X-Box”

Size: 30×40 cm
medium- pastel.

My artwork ranges from the traditional, to the slightly offbeat.

With the wildlife and landscape, paintings, I like a more photo-realistic approach, with light, colour, emotion and a sense of space, being key components.

My cartoons are a little quirky, with themes and styles varying according to mood.

I love hearing about people who ‘bother’ to bring their pets with them. I know it is an expensive process but I cannot even entertain the thought of moving to another country and leaving my girls behind (may with the exceptions of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, my chookies).. As for this piece Tom, Dexter is gorgeous and its a beautiful rendition of him. Is it pastels or paint. It’s just beautifully done. (His Dad doesn’t look too bad hiding behind him either).

Thanks Anne. A number of our friends wondered why we would go to such expense and effort. We, like you, felt that we could no sooner leave our children. Sausage dogs are very intelligent and sensitive little hounds, so I didn’t think they would just happily settle into another family and we would have been torn emotionally wondering. truth is, we probably need them more than they need us :)

Just when I think I’ve seen the best artwork going, you come up with even greater pieces Tom. Dexter and Dexterous.

Tom this is great. I can completely understand, I have two lovely pooches too, they are my kids and I would die for them if necessary.
