Of all the times I’ve photographed the big cats, the only time I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time to be able to capture an action shot, was at the Johannesburg Zoo, when these two had a minor spat. It was all over in seconds, but I had managed to capture enough to be able to create an Acrylic painting from it. I gave the original away when we left Africa and kept, what turned out to be a poor photo of the original painting.

I have “remastered” it digitally to try to capture some of the feeling of the original.

My artwork ranges from the traditional, to the slightly offbeat.

With the wildlife and landscape, paintings, I like a more photo-realistic approach, with light, colour, emotion and a sense of space, being key components.

My cartoons are a little quirky, with themes and styles varying according to mood.

You and me both mate. The toonies I know who have one rave about them. Wacom have a stand at this years cartoon equivalent of the acadamy awards (The Stanley’s) so I hope to test drive one. The price if you look around carefully is around $2000 AUD for the 21" Rumour has it the price will drop dramatically next year when the Cintiq is superseded. Can’t imagine what by.

  • Where are the Stanleys held? I’ll have to sell a lot of paintings to be able to afford one of those, so I’d better get cracking :) Thanks David – the dream comes before the actualisation, so you never know.
