Exodus by Tom Godfrey

Abstract realism. I wanted to try to capture a sense of, epic grand scale, with this image. I chose small humanoids against a backdrop of large structures, somehow familiar, yet unfamiliar at the same time, to try to achieve this. The “story” is timeless and is probably played out across the universe in many different guises within a common theme – “Leaving and loss”

My artwork ranges from the traditional, to the slightly offbeat.

With the wildlife and landscape, paintings, I like a more photo-realistic approach, with light, colour, emotion and a sense of space, being key components.

My cartoons are a little quirky, with themes and styles varying according to mood.

WOW ! Great work Tom ! Excellent design !

  • Thanks Steve. This really was an intuitive one -no preplanning sketch. I just scribbled around until something emerged. Nice when they work :)

Abstract realism! I like that and think I know just what you mean Tom. I’m trying to define it but it’s not easy. Perhaps 3D solid shapes of no recognisable form is the nearest I can get. This gives me the feeling I could get in there and walk around, the life-forms giving it scale and reference. Nice one Master.

  • thanks for your thoughtful and inciteful comment Brian. I always look forward to seeing what you come up with and I agree. I wanted to create the feeling of huge structures made by sentient beings, but with an “other-worldly” feel.
