Ixopo

Pronounced “I Copo”. Near to this little town in the KZN midlands of South Africa, is the Buddhist Retreat Centre. People from all walks of life are welcome to attend the many courses and weekend retreats offered. One is free to attend or not attend the lectures. They will feed you wonderful vegetarian food either way :) My wife and I attended a most interesting bird watching course ( the feathered variety :) with a visiting expert in the field and I did a weekend Sumie art course with Louis Van Loon (A brilliant and very funny man). I did this imaginative pencil sketch (top half more or less accurate) of the giant Buddhist statue in the grounds (designed and built by Louis) and added the Chakra colours to symbolise the energy centres, believed to act like step down transformers from our spiritual bodies (my interpretation :)and cleaned up the jpeg artifacts from the scan with some digital blending.
