Yeeeehaaaaaa
“Yeeehaaa,” roared Jim. His face creased with laughter and he felt somewhat light-headed, even with the benefit of a pressure suit. He turned to Frankie at his side. “Woah! That dive gets me every time.”
“Me too,” chortled Frankie, “although it’s the first time we’‘ve done it with invisibility off.” Frankie gently tweaked the single control column, levelling the, “Frisbee” over the Yarra. “What we are doing will change Earth for ever, Jim.” said Frankie grimly. All traces of the euphoria they had both felt at the end of the swoop, had evaporated like the fog over the Yarra.
“Someone had to do it”, replied Jim softly. His eyes betraying a sadness, at odds with his clipped comment.
They dipped lower and slowed, drifting silently forward about 100 metres above the dark waters, reflected like some giant metallic Krispy Kreme. They needed to be as visible as possible to the morning crowds. The time for pretending, misinformation and outright lies, was over. No-one could stop them now. Ever since the days of the USAF’s infamous “Project Blue Book”, cover up. There had been a small group of dissenters, effectively silenced, through means both fair and fowl. After secret and careful preparation, their time had come. They had finally decided to risk all and act.
Frankie tweaked the controls and then let the craft settle into its auto landing function. They touched down near to the harbour entrance and within minutes, helicopters and fighter aircraft from the Australian Air force were buzzing overhead, like angry gnats ahead of a summer storm.
The nervous and expectant crowds lined every vantage point and cameras, both official and private clicked and whirred away – capturing and sending information at light speed around the globe. The ramp lowered and the crowds hushed as the men walked slowly and deliberately down and towards the awaiting media.
Jim grinned again, exposing row after row of very tiny, but very sharp teeth…

Sweet. Looks real too :) Reminds me a little of Douglas Adam’s Hitch Hikers where bored (alien) uni students do stunts like this on unsuspecting planets.

kimbaross
The title is the clincher. I love it.
Tom Godfrey
Wow! what excellent feedback to come home to, thanks people. Thanks DoctorJ. I reckon if they are more advanced than us, they will have passed the dangerous ”...little knowledge is dangerous.” phase and thus avoided nuclear devastation and they must surely have recognised the value of humour and fun. Survival, just for its own sake, doesn’t sound like much of a reason to be alive. :) Jessica, photoshopped? not at all -Corelled actually :). Jokes aside the original photo was donated by a member and we were challenged to come up with something. I sliced oval sections from the water then placed them in the sky, after that it was just a case of drawing onto it, imagining reflected colour etc then copying and inverting for the craft reflected in the water. Finally I blurred the area likely to be affected by exhaust heat haze. Took me a whole weekend though :)
thanks also Michael Charlotte and Derid- no fly zone, LOL. I did say they were rogue pilots :) thanks also Trifle and Jewd, so, you know then :) Maximillian- wow! not even my wife ever said that, to me at least :) – my mortal self gives you thanks. Finally, thanks Christiaan and Kimbaross, the title only occurred to me once it was all finished. I like to think it’s just how I would have responded.

Tom Godfrey replied
Hi John
It has throttled right back, so as not to rattle the coffee cups of the twilight sippers along the Yarra :) I guess not more than 200kph at the point I took the photo. (not:)Two seconds before that, about 30000kph :)
JohnScott

LOL Sorry Zirg. I just couldn’t resist taking the pic. I hope I haven’t violated any inter-galactic photo laws. PS I believe there are a few parking spaces left in the middle of the antarctic, but hurry they are filling up fast. :0
blurtsmum
I love this – I automatically winced as I imagined the sound and speed of that thing tearing through what looks like a nice respectable well ordered community. That will have had a few folk choking on their evening meals and cocktails. Good work. K
Tom Godfrey
Thanks mum of Blurt – I was trying to get the sensation of speed and I’m glad to know you picked that up. I like your imagination -picturing the folk choking on meals and cocktails. :) cheers

Atheum
Wow, I love it! Reminds me of Gary Larson’s—author of the Far Side comics—comics; he has a panel similar to this. It must be a tough life living in Area 51.
Tom Godfrey replied
:) to be even mentioned in the same breath as Gary Larson…wow, praise indeed Antheum. tough on those poor old fly boys, still, it’s only a 10 minute flight to anywhere on the planet so there are compensations :)
Atheum
Your welcome.

I need the direct link to your entry in the Editing Mayhem challenge. I accidentally scrolled past it, and need the link to get to it. I tried to page through the rest of the entries to get back to the beginning, but that didn’t work.

Hi Sandra -do you mean?

Need you to go to the challenge, check what the link to YOUR entry is. That’s the one I need, and am hoping will let me vote for yours. If not, It’s gonna be a write in.

catherine walker
I love your work ..and this is wonderful and amazing..
I love the whole UFO thing..I’m right into it – after witnessing one in 1993 with 6 other people..we all saw it ..!!! It wasn’t like this one that you’ve created here but was an orange ball of glowing light that could zig zag in an amazing way and speed .it had strange movements..so I’m thinking that there could be some in our skies that aren’t made here on earth..maybe..??
anyway ..just to say again..you’re art is very wonderful!!!
Tom Godfrey replied
Thanks catherine. I have no doubt that other intelligent species have been watching us for ages..maybe since they created us- probably waiting until we grow up a little more before they make contact :) thanks so much for sharing. That must have been an amazing experience. I like to keep an open mind on all issues, that way I figure I am less likely to block out the truth when it arrives :) Thanks again -you are a star.

This image reminds me of the Gerry Anderson’s television series UFO. When I was a kid I was keen on this series…
The flying object depicted in this image is very similar to the one I was used to watch on tv.
This is a moving surprise…Thanks!!!
Tom Godfrey replied
Thanks Davide. I appreciate the time you took to comment and the link you provided. Very interesting. I guess I was subconsciously influenced as a youngster and the “Krispy Kreme” UFOs are indelibly imprinted onto my imaginative circuits :)

This is brilliant!! Aliens are always welcome… its only in the movies that they’re violent universe dominators! Usually fantastic movies, but I reckon they’d be more peace loving than that in real life :D
I reckon these guys would have been slowing down to a hover, so they could wait for the apprentice that went to get the coffees.
