Startled Witchdoctor

Startled Witchdoctor

This image grew organically from the “Chiefs wife”. I was thinking of the regal aloof nature of the African queen, which I had drawn earlier and then I thought of the scary twighlight world of the Sangoma, or witchdoctor, in juxtapostion to this calmer world. Sort of like the yin/yang, good and evil aspects that co-exist within each of us.

Startled Witchdoctor belongs to the following groups:

Character Development, HALLOWEEN, Practising the Dark Arts and Sci Fi Available for sale as

Thanks Pilgrim – it certainly is a little wild :) and Cliff, I agree re lens flare. I had not tried it before, but had read somewhere that it can add to a sense of realism because we are so used to seeing lens flare etc. I was not too sure, but then it seemed to add to whatever is catching the witchdoctor’s eye – sort of like a “tinkerbell effect” :)

Hi Indiebuddy -many thanks – a very flattering great comment. I use Corel Painter to digitally paint onto my sketches. My brush is the plastic wacom pen and a wacom tablet. I don’t know if there are any short cuts but the advice given to me was just to draw draw draw :). Thanks too Lisa -yup it isa little dark, but it evolved from the lighter side -the chiefs wife. It is always easier to draw “ugly” I guess :) I suppose the Yin Yang balance is in there somewhere.
