Pumpkin: The Big Picture
This is the expanded version of “Pumpkin”. I was not sure if I would have time to complete this image before the, “Monsters” comp deadline, so I took a section and posted it as, “Pumpkin”. Here though the full version, now complete.
The vegetarian werewolf, hereafter known as, “Pumpkin” feeds her little one the much needed flesh of the wild orange veggie, The nest contains remnants of a few midnight feasts and I have included a few other “Halloween” type icons in the pic.
The process: A scanned pencil sketch completed in Corel Painter with a Wacom Graphics tablet.
Pumpkin: The Big Picture belongs to the following groups:

Another Fine Matte Tom… Nicely Done!
Tom Godfrey replied
Thanks Zooreka. I’ve always wanted to do matte painting, so this is it? I’ve often wondered what matte was – thought it was a photo with images drawn on and blended to appear real in that setting. I guess it’s wider than that then? Cheers mate
zooreka
Hi Tom… Loosely described it is a photrealistic rendering you would do for the cinema industry for footage where typically it would be too expensive or impossible to do. I posted I think, a more in depth explanation on the groups forum pages. Many exponents of the art form draw on images and ‘weld’ them to base paintings they do with photoshop and then adjust hues and lighting etc (Dylan Cole, James Clyne, Aaron Sims, H.R.Giger etc,,,,) . My favurite matte painter of all thouugh is Ryan Church who pretty much paints the entire image and rarely imports images…. and does it in Painter. Your work reminds me a lot of his style and approach to the medium….
Tom Godfrey replied
Thanks zooreka. A really enlightening comment, thanks for that. I admire Ryan Church’s work so much, I discovered him when I bought Painter and wanted to find seriously brilliant artists who used it professionally. I just never made the connection that his work was matte painting, but it makes complete sense now. I will have a look at the other guys as well. I like the idea of painting everything if poss, rather than the collage type approach, although I would like to try that as well. Thanks again buddy -to be mentioned in the same breath as Ryan Church is a huge honour, I must be on the right track because that is how I would like to paint.

Don’t think I saw this either Oh master of the SiFi paintings. I need lessons, when uni is finished, on photoshop. You can ‘pop over’ and teach me!!!
