Haystacks - Tom Godfrey after Monet
Our local 101 art group has a “Fabulous Fakes” exhibition every year. This was my attempt at one of Monet’s Haystacks series of paintings. I found it a really interesting study. You really look carefully at another artist’s work when you try to copy it and thus see subtle nuances which you might otherwise miss.
A new challenge from the acrylic painters gp prompted this upload.
Haystacks - Tom Godfrey after Monet belongs to the following groups:
Acrylic Painting, Impressionism Café and Realist Traditional Art Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

Beautiful work Tom…I remember seeing a doco on Monet and his haystacks recently, fascinating as is your work;)
Tom Godfrey replied
thanks Shanina – I had never studied his work before. Then when we went to the Canberra, I saw one of his haystacks paintings along with a couple of the water lillies paintings -fascinating.
Tracey Mac
How beautiful…..gorgeous work…
Tom Godfrey replied
thanks Tracey

It was a doco on the Sunday Arts program ABC, it’s probably available on DVD…really was brilliant;)
Tom Godfrey replied
thanks Shanina -I will keep a look out next time I visit an ABC shop.
Anne van Alkemade
that is absolutely awesome Tom. I think Monet would have been hard put to tell the difference!!!
Tom Godfrey replied
Did he need glasses then? :) thanks Anne – love your comments
Kym Breeze
lovely painting….tones and highlights work really well…great study, wonderful talent.
Tom Godfrey replied
Thanks Kym, lovely comment. Monet did all the hard work though, so I’d better give him credit :)
Anne van Alkemade
you’re being modest, Tom. I did a cross check and you’ve got it right down to the bent tip of the left stack!!! LOL.
Tom Godfrey replied
Wow – you are good. LOL, lefrog unmasked, ze forger zells eaze fake Monets to galleries around ze world :)
Anne van Alkemade
I KNEW IT!
Okay, I require the payment in unmarked non-sequential bills. Don’t worry about the brown paper bag (something definitely sleazy in that connotation), but perhaps an ox blood colour leather bag with long strap and pockets for pens and space for camera would be good.
Tom Godfrey replied
LOL ssssh, not so loud Anne- they are on their way :)
Brian Towers
I reckon Monet could learn a lot from you Tom. You got the red glow in the shadows brilliantly.
Tom Godfrey replied
Hmmm, thanks Brian, I just hope I’m not asked to put my Monet where my mouth is :)
David Stuart
Fine, fine, work Tom. I just took a peep at the original on line. A very good impression of an impressionist I say.
Tom Godfrey replied
thanks David, I’m glad you’re “Impressed” :)
