An Australian icon by which ever name you call it – The Yacca, Grass Tree or Black Boy – The magnificent Mount Lofty Grass Tree, Xanthorrhoea Quadrangulata
Photographed on Mount Barker Summit in the Adelaide Hills one foggy morning, with the Mount Lofty Ranges in the distance.
The Iconic Australian Grass Tree is highly suseptable to an introduced fungus called Phytophthora cinnamomi, which is transported from site to site through soil or water. It can be carried from place to place on the soles of people’s shoes, bikes, tools, earth moving equipment or the introduction of contaminated soils or dolamite.
With less that 3% of native vegetation remaining in the Mount Barker Region, Mount Barker Summit needs to be protected, not ‘upgraded’ for our convenience.
