Fitzgerald’s Leek-orchid – Prasophyllum fitzgeraldii.
I went looking for this orchid yesterday & was so pleased to find it. I wasn’t expecting it to be all twisted though!
Photographed on the edge of a path on Mt Barker Summit in the Adelaide Hills.
Prasophyllum fitzgeraldii is listed as a threatened species by the Department of Environment & Heritage.
It is listed as ‘Extremely Restricted’ in the AMLR – Adelaide & Mount Lofty Region:
The AMLR distribution is disjunct, isolated from other extant occurrences within SA. Within the AMLR the species’ relative area of occupancy is classified as ‘Extremely Restricted’.”
Sadly this orchid is also under treat by the Mount Barker Councils plans for development of Mount Barker Summit – which includs the upgrading of paths – which this treatened species was photographed on the edge of.
