This photograph was taken at Sinclair’s Gully Winery at Norton Summit.

Young Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos spend 5 days on the ground before they can fly & are vulnerable to predators such as foxes. This fledgling yellow tail black cockatoo was rescued from the road & placed behind a fox proof fence to protect it while it learnt to fly. The adult Yellow Tails still fed it & a group of them were encouraging it to fly. It has since taken flight & joined it’s flock :)

lovely shot Lee, i saw some of these at Stirling on Sunday, but couldnt get close enough for a decent shot.

  • Thanks Bill! They are usually so high up, so I haven’t had too much luck with capturing them either….which is why I jumped at the chance to photograph one that was on the groud : )

Yes, the ones we saw were right up the tops of the trees, plus it was pretty heavy rain at the time, so the camera was reluctant to come out from it’s bag.
