Victoria's Bushfires

Our thoughts & prayers go out to all those affected by the Bushfires in Victoria. Such devastation is almost incomprehensible, such a sad loss of life, wildlife & bushland…. It all seems so senseless.

There is no greater hero than the firefighter…

As for those who start fires…I won’t put into words what I think their punishment should be.

Dreadful situation. Can’t imagine the horror for those involved. Hope there are no more today.

Agree….such mass devastation….lets hope the predicted showers are heavy enough to slow the fires progress…

Us here in the Adelaide hills are incredibly lucky to get away with yesterday (saturday). This would have been us in the news as well had a fire started or been started. Any fire would not have been stoppable, not at all such were the conditions.
As a weather watcher and someone who writes regular articles on our weather events here in SA I have never felt wind as powerfully hot and dry at over 420 metres ASL in the southern Mt Lofties. The conditions that brewed over the previous fortnight and culminated on Saturday the 7th feb 2009 will be remembered forever and with great sadness.
Our thoughts to all out east.

I knew that yesterdays weather conditions were extreme, but it’s interesting to hear it from someone who knows the weather. Lets hope next weekend isn’t as bad. Thanks for your imput Tim.

Saturday was a flashback to Ash Wednesday 1983 – the wind, the colour of the sky, the heat and the absolute dryness of the air. We were so lucky to escape Victoria’s fate – but don’t relax! The ground and the fuel is still just as dry, and by the weekend, we could be in peril again.

I join you, and everyone on the Bubble, in sending our thoughts of strength and support to everyone affected by these horrendous events in Victoria…
