Do I know what it means to be an Aussie? I’ve been here for 46 years (ex NZ originally), just did the citizenship thing last year, after all those years. I don’t really feel a ‘national’ thing about any country really. National anthems don’t do it for me, although winning medals at the Olympics does! I just know that Australia is probably one of the best countries in the world – clean, safe, fabulous weather, great food, great wine, opportunities, democratic, you can express your opinion in public without fear of being shot or imprisoned, you can send your kids to whatever school you want/can afford, you can meet people for the first time without worrying that they’re maniacs or serial killers, your dog can go for a run on the beach (when the beach Nazi isn’t looking), you can keep a horse, you can live in the country while still being only 35 km from the CBD – is this enough???? Happy Australia Day!!!!!!!
