“No matter how slow the film, Spirit always stands still long enough for the photographer it has chosen.”
~Minor White, Photographer
Leeanne Middleton has always enjoyed the art of photography. From 1993 – 1997, she worked as a professional reporter-photographer for the print media industry. She was required to develop her own film and create her own black and white images using a dark room.
“Photography is a way for me to capture moments in my life that words can not adequately express. With photography, I can create a permanent record of the world as I see it. The pictures I take result from each subject having a specific emotional impact on me.”
Leeanne’s current camera is a Canon PowerShot SX20 IS. She is enjoying have 20x optical zoom, as it allows her to experiment with macro photography. Since her days as a photojournalist, Leeanne has developed a keen eye for images that move the hearts and minds of observers.
“My honest hope is that people will look deep into the photographs I make and see how the world has expressed itself to me. If an image creates some revelation in an observer, I have accomplished my goal of sharing it.”
Leeanne’s photography is available on Red Bubble and through private purchase at her studio (email@example.com).
“Watercolour is a medium that can be as demanding and temperamental as those who choose to paint with it. But it is a colourful and exciting medium all the same – well suited to describing the many moods of the subject, as well as those of the artist wielding the brush.” – Jean Burman
Leeanne Middleton’s passion for gardening and close-up photography is evident in her watercolour paintings. Her depictions of nature from unusual perspectives are what make her creations unique. A self-taught artist, Leeanne was moved to focus on her art after her son was born.
“Having a child reminds you of the simple beauty that surrounds us … but which we don’t always have time to stop and appreciate. When I watch my son run his tiny hand along the mossy bark of an old maple tree or gently lower his turned up nose into the middle of a tulip, it causes me to reflect on my own childhood discoveries. When I paint, I try to look at a plant or animals as though it is for the very first time.”
Leeanne is employed as an elementary school teacher. During art lessons, she delights in familiarizing her students with the distinct styles of famous artists such as Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Van Gogh, Modigliani, Loates and Chee Chee. She believes all children are artistically inclined, and envies their untamed imaginations.
“I am fortunate to live and teach in an area where natural beauty abounds – where artistic inspiration is infinite. It is wonderful to be able to share what I see, but can’t always express in words, with others. It is my heart’s vision.”
Leeanne’s print work has been featured at Maple and Moose (Blyth, Ontario), Earth Angel (Wingham, Ontario), and JMR Art Gallery (Bayfield, Ontario). Her watercolour was exhibited at the 2010 Blyth Festival Art Gallery’s Community Show in the Bainton Gallery, at which she was photographed with her piece “Apples” for The Blyth Citizen. Her art work is currently available on Red Bubble and through private purchase at her studio (firstname.lastname@example.org).
