Jeremy – you asked for candid opinions. Clearly you are a talented portrait painter… But, I feel your work falls between trying to capture a likeness and trying to inject something of yourself [or the subject]. Garcia and Tosh [and Young to some extent], have something extra. Marley, Cash, Clapton and Nelson and just pictures of faces. A Marley with the locks and the conviction you inject into the Garcia and the attitude in this Tosh would be great.
Thanks Mufa. I appreciate the feedback. Interestingly, the garcia and clapton were done prior to my starting to work with Tom Vincent, a master painter whom I began to work with pre-Nelson, Tosh, and Cash. For those paintings, I was trying to capture strict realism. I struggle with this constantly – the need to be original and creative and the desire to paint realistically. Probably something I will struggle with for years to come….Thanks again for your candidness.
