Also known as Bush Stone Curlews, these birds are threatened in Victoria. They live and breed in grass and bushland, where they feed on small lizards, insects, frogs and sometimes mammals. When disturbed they have the strange habit of freezing mid-motion often resulting in bizarre poses.

    I’ve never heard of a Bush Thick Knee. Well done on photographing such a rare bird. I have a little thing for birds … they’re so interesting.
