"Bee Spirit" - Surreal abstract tribal bee totem animal by

“Bee Spirit” – A surreal abstract tribal bee totem animal illustration.

Bees in spirit / totem / symbolic meaning represent untiring productivity, creativity, selflessness, determination, diligence , cooperation, community, matriarchal energies, fellowship, concentration, industry, and alchemy.

In mythology and ancient cultures, as today, the bee was a renown presence and symbol. In ancient Egypt, the bee symbolized kingship and royalty. In ancient Greece, Delphic priestesses and priestesses of Artemis and Demeter were referred to as “bees” The bee was also an emblem of the goddess Potnia and her priestesses were titled “Melissa” ( greek for bee, derived from the word for honey.) The symbol of the bee was associated with the Eleusinian Mysteries. The Celts viewed the bee as a symbol for industry, humanitarianism, compassion and associated them with hidden mysteries. In Ancient Near East and Aegean cultures, the bee was a sacred insect that bridged the underworld to the waking world. Bee motifs are also seen in Mayan cultures, an example being the Ah-Muzen-Cab, the Bee God, found in Mayan ruins, likely designating honey-producing cities (who prized honey as food of the gods)
