On 9/30/11 it was an absolutely gorgeous fall morning at Mt. Katahdin – the rising sun was lighting up the colorful trees, but the summit was concealed by clouds.
Sharon and I took a drive up the Golden Road (logging road) and this was the view of Mt. Katahdin – Baxter State Park, from the bridge near the Appalachian Trail. While we were there, we saw many hikers with full beards who began hiking months ago from Georgia. Mt. Katahdin is their final destination – the most northern point of the Appalachian Trail.

Beautiful, glowing shot, Lori!! Those hikers have quite a story to tell in the time it took them to traverse the 1500 mile distance.

  • Thank you!!! Yes those hikers really do have stories – especially this year with the extreme weather. The Appalachian Trail is only about 10 miles from my home in PA. Sharon and I helped a hiker who started in Maine. He was stranded across Clarks Creek for 2 days due to flooding and was almost out of food.
