It looks like this cute little Goldfinch has on his winter fur coat for the icy weather. Photo taken sitting in my Mimosa tree, 12/20/08 – Clarks Valley, PA.
Often called a “Wild Canary” the male Goldfinch is a bright yellow bird with a black patch on his forehead, black wings and tail with white markings. The color dramatically changes during the winter to a dull olive color without the black forehead. Goldfinches are partial migrators and eat seeds (preferably Thistle) and insects.
